Amherst Arts Night Plus with Mass Poetry, Rushelle Frazier and Procheta Mukherjee Olson

Join us Thursday, August 3 from 5-8 pm during Amherst Arts Night Plus for an open mic, poetry reading, and one-night art exhibit!

This month, Mass Poetry's new executive director Laurin Macios will be visiting western Mass for a meet and greet with the local community running from 5 to 6 pm. Mass Poetry supports poets and poetry in Massachusetts, with a goal of broadening the audience of poetry readers, bringing poetry to readers of all ages and transforming people’s lives through inspiring verse.

Our featured poet for August is Rushelle Frazier, and our featured artist is Procheta Mukherjee Olson.

Open mic signups are from 5-6 pm, and the open mic begins at 6 pm with the featured poet following. All are encouraged to share written word, music, and performance, or to simply lend a friendly ear! This month's open mic will be held on the Homestead lawn, weather permitting.

Rushelle Frazier is a queer black feminist writer, permaculture educator, urban farmer, counselor, and organizer. She is the host of the Thirsty Verb open mic and the president of the Worcester County Poetry Association, as well as the editor at the Worcester Review.

Procheta Mukherjee Olson is an Indian artist living in the United States. Operating as an ethnographer, historian, and story-teller, she explores the intersection of the social and the personal. Her work is deeply inspired by her interest in cultural exchanges, cultural identity, the universal, and the mundane.
